The Southwest Florida
The southwest cities and towns of Florida's Gulf Coast start with Fort Myers, Captiva, Sanibel Island, and Cape Coral are major beach destinations in Southwest Florida, with Cape Coral having over 400 miles of canals, more miles than any other city in the world. Most vacation homes in Cape Coral are water front homes with canal access to the Gulf of Mexico. Captiva Island is known as the most romantic beach in the world. In addition to great beaches, Fort Myers offers tours of the historic winter residences of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford.
At the southern end of the Southwest Florida is the Naples and Marco Island area, known as the gateway to the Everglades. Marco Island is the northernmost and largest of the 10,000 Islands Aquatic Preserve of Florida, and the start of many ecotours into the region. Naples arguably has the most favorable year round boating conditions in the US. The pleasant temperatures, balmy sea breezes, and calm seas of the Gulf of Mexico are a boater's paradise.
